Odd Inspiration

Sometimes you find inspiration for outfits in the weirdest places. While I am at my parents place I am teaching my mom how to use her ipod and while setting it up for her I decided to put all her cds in to itunes for her. I was putting Sugarland into itunes when I noticed the picture on the back of the cd cover. It was a red skirt on the cover but all I could find on the internet was the same picture but the skirt in green.

I have a red leather skirt and as soon as warm weather rolls around I will be pairing it with a nice white tank and matching red belt. Now what shoes to wear with it?

So I goggled the lead singer and I saw a few more outfits that I thought were great. Who know I would be inspired by a country singer?

Guess I'll be check out the country awards more often.

Whats some of your weird inspirations?

Let it snow, Let it snow, LET IT SNOW!!

The snow continues to fall on the Lower Mainland and I have venture over to my parents house on Vancouver Island. The snow here is incredible. I have never seen it this deep and staying around for this long. It always snows here at least once a year but it also usually melts in a day or two. Here is what my parents place normally looks like without snow.

Maybe not so green in late fall, early winter but not like this.

It incredible! I love snow but I do not have the clothes or footwear for this kind of weather!

My dog loves snow! She has been making paths left, right and center!

And my mom gets to feed all the little birds, so cute!

How are you coping with all this crazy weather?

Stanley Park Christmas Lights!

Tuesday night my man and I got all bundled up and went out in the snow to see the Christmas Lights in Stanley Park. This was my first year going to see them, it was beautiful. What I didn't know is that there is a train ride through the park where you get to see even more lights. Its $8.00 per adult and we were totally going to do it till we saw this line!

Lets say we were not the only people with this idea. Apparently you need to buy the tickets in advance or be willing to what about 45mins to and hour. Which normally would have been fine but with all this weird snowy weather we are having, it was FREEZING!

So we are planning on going next year. Which makes me super excited! I am like a kid in a candy store when it comes to Christmas fun. If you have time before you head out on your Christmas holidays I say go and check it out. The lights were awesome and its free if you skip the train! I say grab a hot coco, bundle up and do it!

After the lights we did a little Christmas shopping then off to my place for a great meal and a Christmas viewing of "Fred Claus".

Here's what I wore.

Surprise Date Night

So last Wednesday I took my man on a surprise date. I just called him, told him to meet me at a certain time and place, oh and to wear a suit.  So we meet up at BIN 942, which is where we had our first date over a year and a half ago. We had a drink each and then walked back to his place to drop off my work stuff.

After drinks it was off to Abigail's Party for dinner. If you haven't been there yet I suggest you go now...yes, right now.....well okay after you finish reading this. It is this tiny little restaurant in Kits, across and up from the King's Head Pub on Yew St. It has about 12 tables and a few seats at the bar. It is darkly lit with candles, which makes for a great atmosphere. The music wasn't too loud, and best of all only one tv showing sports. Nothing against sport as I love to watch a good game now and then but sometime when on a date with your man you like him to focus! The best part was the food. It was DELICIOUS! I had the meatloaf special which was so good I overheard they had sold out, by 8pm. There was lot homestyle westcoast dishes on the menu and all at reasonable prices. It was exactly what I was looking for. I was sick and tried of the Earls, Joey, Moxie's routine but still wanted really good food at a good price, I got better. Amazing food at good prices. Plus I notice Qualicum Beach Scallops on the menu and being from Qualicum Beach, you know I'm going back to try that dish! Seriously go there.

After diner it was back to my place for some serious Backgammon and a bottle of wine. It was a great night and so much fun.

Also I got to wear my '80s dress I got at the Erin Templeton Sample Sale in the summer.

Dress: $10
Jacket: Jacob $80(two years ago)
Tights: American Apparel $16
Shoes: Aldo $60
Purse: Vintage, Gift from Dusty
Necklace: Aldo (Free, buy one, get one deal)
Cuff: Vintage, Value Village $2
Watch: Vintage $20 Value Village
Cat: Patches (13th birthday gift)

This is the only picture I got of my man that night. Not great but you can see he is wearing a suit. This is his new baby..I mean car.

When arriving at BIN942 wearing his black suit with white shirt first thing out of his mouth is "I couldn't find a white pocket square"! See why I love him?

Party Like a Rockstar!

Went to '80s night at Library Square a few weeks ago, and it was amazing. It was my man, Ali, Jenn, and I. We got there around 10pm and it was getting packed fast. We lay claim to a great corner of the d-floor and danced like Madonna for a few hours before heading home. Grabbed a Happy Meal at McDonalds and called it a night. All in all, it was PERFECT!

Here is me in my "Tina Turner" dress.

I got it at the Quick Nickel, which is one of those stores that you can find a gem in if you are willing to look. This dress was only $40.00, by Kitson.

Dress: Kitson $40
Shoes: Aldo Outlet $20

Halloween!

Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. In fact, it is my favorite day of the year second only to my birthday, making it my favorite day of the year that people who don't know me celebrate as well. This year it was almost a disaster! We were moving on the day and thought that we would be done with tons of time to spare to get ready and head over to Ali's for a party. How wrong we were. We had to stop packing and just go to the party. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

My man and I need easy, middle of moving costumes, so we went as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's and her gigolo neighbour and true love "Fred". Easy simple costumes but so much fun.

What I discovered while trying to throw my costume together was that I, in fact, did not own a little black dress. I realized that sometimes basics are important and I have to remember that when buying clothes. I have a lot of unique pieces and sometimes nothing to go with them to make outfits due to lack of basics.

A group of my friends came as the Flinestones which was awesome, they even made the large feet. My friend Alex was a gladiator and Ali was from Risky Business(Check out the background)

All in all a great time was had and we eventually finished moving the next day at around 5pm. UGH!

Love,
Girl

BCBG Maxazria and FASHION

This is how far behind I am on my updating. so many more to come now that my computer is up and running!

FASHION Magazine and BCBG Maxazria hooked up on October 29th to reveal the new look of the BCBG Store on Robson Street. It was an amazing party. I attend with my friend, Ali as my fashionable plus one. You can only take your man to so many fashion events before he starts to dress better than you, not something I am ready for. There was great wine, amazing food, and beautiful clothes. I didn't buy anything as I was moving the next day but I would have loved to get a few pieces. Next time!

Here is what I wore to the party.

Shirt: Target $6
Pants: H&M $30
Shoes: Aldo Outlet $20
I tossed on a cute green coat for warmth and that was it.

One thing that was really cool was that FASHION had professionals were taking photos all night and you can see them here.

Here is the one of the two of us after a few glasses of amazing white wine.

It was a lot of fun and look forward to the next event.

I know you wont believe me.....

but I just got home from dancing with the one, the only, Cuba Gooding Jr. Yes, the same one who yells "SHOW ME THE MONEY" and let me say he is nothing but a gentleman. What a weird twist to an otherwise normal weekend.

This happened right after I bumped into Meredith Monroe, who I worked with on a movie, in Sears. I love her and think she is an amazing person and actress.

Wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Thanksgiving!

Its been a week since I got back from Thanksgiving on the Island. It been a busy week, looking for an apartment but I found the cutest little place I can't wait to move into! Now that that is taken care of its time to take care of my blog.

My man and I had dinner at my grandparents place along with my mom, my stepdad and my grannie's friend. It was so good, I love a great home cooked meal, especially something hard to cook like turkey. We played some games and feasted, it was a great night had by all.

I personally scored big time. My Grannie gave me a fake fur jacket that my Grandpa got for her in the '60s. It still in perfect condition. I love it and can't wait for a cold day to wear it!

Also I got a dress she wore in her 20's for galas and such. Its been taken apart at the seams and is a little small for me. I am going to get a tailor to short it to just below the knee and use the extra material to add some inches to the bodice. I'm thinking I will plan an event for the dress!

Here is what my man and I wore for dinner.
T-shirt: Garage Clothing (two for $18)
Skirt: Joe Fresh $15
Tights: American Apparel $16
Ballet Flats: Aldo $60
Necklace: Aldo $10

On him: Shirt: H&M $40
Jeans: Quick Nickel $60
Socks: Joe Fresh pack of 6 $10
Watch: Birthday gift from my folks, CANUCKS

Oh yeah and I cut in new bangs. What do you think?

Vancouver, Vancouver!

Saturday night we set out in the wind and rain to see the closing night performance of Ballet BC's Season '08-'09 opener Nine Sinatra Songs. It was worth it. I am a big fan of ol' blues eyes as is my man, which was how I got him to go with me. The other bonus was that the dresses were by Oscar de la Renta. Three things I love all in one show, does it get any better? Well actually yes, the opening show for Ballet BC's new season was a three part treat.

The Program for the night started off with Schubert. Schubert is a three part ballet about the life of a ballerina. There was a loose story to the piece and I quite enjoyed the lead ballerina, Makaila Wallace. She was light on her feet and really conveyed the emotions on her face. It was a nice way to start the evening.

After a short intermission there was Petrouchka. This one was quite different. I definitely had to read the program to get a sense of what was being conveyed in the dance but none the less the dancing was impeccable and I still quite enjoyed it. Not a beginner ballet to be taking a man to as it was slightly avant-garde for myself and I love the ballet.

After another short intermission it was time for some Frank Sinatra. This was AMAZING. I loved it. I'd have to call it ballroom inspired ballet. The songs were original Sinatra recordings, filling the Centre with his lush voice. I had goosebumps. The pairs were graceful and loving. One set of dancers even had humor playing like they didn't know how to dance together. If it was still on I would suggest you get yourself down there asap but it is not. I do suggest though that once this year you take yourself to the ballet.

BC Ballet's next show is The Faerie Queen. I saw this show a few years ago and loved it. It is new take on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. It is a fun and colorful ballet good for all ages. If you go, please let me know what you think.

Here is what I wore to the show. This is one of my most treasured items. I found it at a thrift store on Cordova St. It was thirty dollars and as soon as I knew it fit, I knew it was coming home with me!
Dress: Deluxe Junk $30
Shoes: Aldo Outlet $20
Purse: Salvation Army Thrift Store $2
Ring: Sears $5
Earrings: Le Chateau $10

Cheers,
Girl

"Its Friday Night and I Feel Alright..."

Friday night a few of us hit the town for my friend Jenn's birthday. First it was off to Granville Room for a quick bite and some amazing cocktails. You have to try the Mr. Pink, it has muddled watermelon in it and the duck was divine.

If you have not checked this place out I seriously suggest you do. It has a great atmosphere, good music and great decor. Having said that there was a picture of a chick flashing her breasts so if that bothers you maybe wait a month and then check it out, the photo should be gone by then.

My friend Ali and I at Granville Room.

After the Granville Room, it was off to one of my favorite places to dance, Library Square. Which after doing some research, is also owned by the Donnelly Group as is Granville Room and a few of my other favorite hang outs.

I love the Library Square not only for their atmosphere, but also because the people who work there are fantastic. They give great service, and for someone who works in the service industry its always nice to see that other people give so much of themselves. I was very impressed by one of the managers, Tommy, who remembered me from a ways back when my man and I were there during the day watching the Lakers play.

Mostly I love their music, Friday was '90s night and having been a teenager in the '90s it was awesome! In fact the played songs I haven't heard in forever but somehow still know all the words for. This may have to do with the fact that I LIVED for the school dances. I never missed one and I dance all night. I, apparently, was not too cool for school. If this sounds like you, you have to check it out. Also high on my list is the fact that Saturday is '80s night. Seriously go there and dance your cute butt off! Maybe say Hi if you see me shaking it. Also for those of you who do not, strangely, like to dance there is good food, pool tables and a sweet shuffle board to entertain yourselves with.

This is just of sample of the crazy fun time you will have. Jenn in her birthday outfit and Ali and I rocking out.

Here's what I wore. Sorry about the slightly weird photos, this is what happens when you have to take of yourself when no one else is around. I'm working on it.

T-shirt: Dynamite 2 for $18(got one in white too)
Skirt: Joe Fresh $14
Booties: Aldo $60
Earring: Xmas Gift from my friend, Malinda
Necklace: Aldo Accessories $25
Blazer: Le Chateau (Xmas Gift from my grandparents)

PS: First person to name the song I stole the title of this blog post from wins a prize.........
