'90s Purple

Yesterday I wore one of my new vintage finds to my internship at Yates. It had crazy shoulder pads which I instantly took out. Let me tell you, taking out crazy shoulder pads can make a world of a difference. Other than that I added a belt and pushed up the sleeves. Sometimes that's all a dress needs to make the jump from one decade to another.

Dress: Thrifted, '90s Smart Set
Belt: H&M
Booties: Zara
Earrings: Aldo
Watch: Rolex, gift from Mike

I loved neckline of this dress and all the buttons. They are a bit of a pain in the butt to do up but who doesn't love those funky little details?

Another thing I should mention about vintage is one the easiest way to make your look more modern is with your shoes. Sure I think these booties go with everything, cause they do, but also they are super modern and therefore make this dress look less '90s. A pair of Doc Martians with have instantly sent my look into the '90s full force.

I am so glad I grabbed this dress while out on my vintage hunt. Not bad for $30 bucks!

A little vintage baby!

Being super busy with a full time job and an internship means I have to make effort to fit in some "me" time. It is so important to make sure you get some "me" time or else you just burn out and are no good to anyone.

Last Thursday I had a full day of "me" time before it it was off to work at 5. I met up with my friend, Taryn, who I hadn't seen in a few years. It was was as if nothing had changed, well other than the fact that she got married and had a baby. We had a great time at brunch, the three ladies. Penelope is adorable and her style is already rocking. I would expect nothing less having a movie costume expert for a mom.

Doesn't her hairband just make you want to take a fashion risk? It does for me. In fact, after brunch I headed out to do a little vintage shopping. I used to go vintage shopping almost every weekend but recently I have just not had time. And because of little Penelope I took a few risk when trying things one. I think I did really good with the pieces I scored.

Some of the items I tried on at The Bohemian Gallery on Main St.

My finds from The Bohemian Gallery.

This '90s dress had some serious shoulder pads that came out ASAP.

LOVE!

One of those pieces that is about a million times better on the body than the  hanger.
After scoring some great pieces I headed over to Burgoo on Main St to have a little lunch. Nothing like a beer and some fondue to make a girl happy.

Brie cheese fondue, YUM!
It makes a world of a difference to squeeze in some "me' time, I felt refreshed and happy to be off to work.

Interning Outfit

Sorry I have been a bit absent, I have been busy. I know so has the whole world. I have just gotten to the point where I am so tired, I just want to cry and have a few times over the last week. But lets not talk about crying lets look at something I wore to my internship last week.

Shirt: Thrifted and DIY
Jeans: Foever21
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Sample
Bracelet: Actually a hair elastic

Lipstick: "Rebel" by MAC

These shoes have been a lifesaver. As an intern you never know what you will be doing day to day, as a fashionista you still want to look great. These shoes are the perfect mix! I get to wear funky shoes which I adore and yet if I need to run all over the office I can without hurting.

Side note: MAC just re-released a bunch of lipsticks and nail polish and I found out "Rebel" is one of them. If you are like me and you love wearing the same colour for years, you should stock up. I know I will be.

Now I am off to take a nap, I earned it!

The Great Gatsby

Last night the movie trailer for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby was released. Have you watched it yet?

Can we talk about how I don't even care about the plot or characters or who they cast, LOOK at that fashion! I have seen all of Baz Luhrmann's movies and all of the have had great style. Romeo and Juliet came out when I was in high school and I probably watched it over 10 times. Truthfully at the time I also wanted that kind of love but more important was the style of the movie. It was so visually stimulating that I felt like I saw something new every time I watched it.

I also enjoy his mix of modern music with period pieces, such as Moulin Rouge. I own this movie and after watching the trailer for the Great Gatsby I popped it in. Who doesn't love the cancan girls dancing to Christina Aquirlla's Lady Marmalade and the men dancing to Nirvina's Teen Spirit.

How you ever seen Strictly Ballroom? It was Baz Luhrmann's first movie and I watched it with my grandmother in theatre. I danced all through high school and I love dance movies more than any other type of movie. This movie is...well...different.

If you have never seen it, find it! It's a bit out there and it looks a bit dated, 1992, but it's great. Plus you're going to need something to hold you over till December when The Great Gatsby is released. I really wish he would make more movies but it takes time to make such visual movies. Fingers crossed that this is a good one!

Now I leave you with one of the most famous things Baz Luhrmann produced. Oh how I loved this, mostly since I was the class of '99.

Rain, rain go away!

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain, and I'm not going to lie, I was not motivated to get out of bed. In fact I was barely motivated to move from the bed to the couch. BUT I bought a new hot pink sports bra yesterday and I have to wear it. So I got up and I will be off to the gym as soon as I finish this post.

I had something very exciting happen to me on Wednesday. I was at Yates and my boss asked me to help him with something in the sample closet. He said he needed me to pick out $300 dollars worth of stuff...FOR MYSELF!!! As a thank you for all my hard work. I was stunned and so thankful! So I could have done two things: Get as much as I could for $300 or find a wonderful piece that I would love!

How beautiful are these?
Graham and Spencer leather pants

I found leather pants!!!! How awesome is that?! I have always wanted a pair but its hard for me to hand over that much money at once while trying to get a career going after being in school for most of my 20's. Getting a big piece like that seemed like a smart use of such a nice gesture. I also got a silk tank top that I think is just wonderful.

I mean look at the cool chain on the neckline. Love details like that.

Ok, now I am off to the gym before I change my mind and end up on the couch like a slug. Hope this rain is gone tomorrow, at least its good for my plants....right?

Inspiration comes from many places: The White Blazer

I know I showed you my white blazer on Sunday but I didn't express how bad I wanted it. I started hunting for a white blazer in mid February. I know, a tough time to find a white blazer, but I was obsessed. I was inspired by an article in Lucky magazine. I LOVE MY: White Blazer. 1 girl, 1 signature piece, 4 ways. I already knew I needed a black boyfriend blazer, I didn't know I needed a white one till I saw this.

My obsession continued when a month later I saw this. On top of the fact that there was another girl rocking a white blazer, she was wearing another one of my most wanted items...leather pants! Oh, how I long for real black leather pants...anyways back to the white blazer.

Marie Claire

I finally found one that I loved at Aritzia in April. The best part, I had just received a $50 dollar gift card from my work for Aritzia, and had my birthday. So basically the blazer was free. Oh, how the world works in such wonderful ways. I wore it to work yesterday at Yates & Co and I felt great. I got the inspiration for the outfit below from this lovely lady.

Lucy Laucht
What do you guys think? Awesome right?!

Blazer: Aritzia

Yesterday I sent part of my day merchandising the showroom for when the sales reps have buyer meeting. I enjoy setting the clothes up for people to see them at their best. Here is a snap I took of the Charlotte Tarantola Fall 2013 line all set up and ready to be sold. I'm telling you ladies there are some fantastic pieces I plan on making mine!

Now I am off to a 9am bar meeting at Cactus Club, looking forward to trying the new summer drinks that we will be rolling out May 27th. See you on the flip side....yeah I just said that...

Shimmer and Distress

A couple weeks ago I had a make-up consultation with a bride at her home in Richmond. We were doing a test run of the look she would wear on the big day. Having worked in film with actors and actress a little bride stress is really no big deal to me, but you still need to help them not to be worried about any of the little details. I love doing weddings! Everyone is so happy and pretty and well, you know, romantic. Nothing wrong with a little romance.

Couple days later it was off to Yates for another day of interning. I have been going there two days a week and I LOVE IT!! So much fun and so different from my day managing at Cactus. I have been looking for a beat up looser jean for a while now and I can't believe I found them for $30 at Forever 21. And yes, I realize these two outfits are quite similar but whateves, it happens.

A Revamp of a Classic

Before we went to Hawaii this spring I decided that my favourite summer staple needed a bit of a revamp, an upgrade if you will. I live in my jean cut off shorts in summer, I love them! I am not really a fan of short, I prefer dresses, but every girl does need a pair of shorts. I, truthfully, only have two pairs of shorts. Jean cut offs and a pair of olive green cargo shorts. I wear the jean shorts to death and the other pair maybe 3 times a summer. You can see where my true love lies, anyways, I thought they needed a bit of a change this summer.

Last summer I bought a pair of over sized jeans at The Wildlife Thrift store on Granville St and turned them into a pair of shorts. I don't think that jean short should be too tight and now that I mostly wear skinny jeans I needed someone else jeans to turn into short. I think they cost me about $5 bucks. Not bad, huh?

So to upgrade them I simply added studs. I adore studs and feel that they had just a little bit of tough to anything they are on. Here is the finished product. Cool, right?

I think I wore them 5 out of the 7 days we were in Hawaii and if you're wondering they go with everything. The great thing about studs is that they work with anything you want them to go with, no need to worry about mixing metal or any of that. Just throw them on and go. This whole upgrade took me about 15 mins and now its like I have a whole new pair of shorts. So great!

You can get the studs at any craft or fabric shop and the instructions are on the box. I wish I have take some diy shots along the way but I totally forgot. If you have any question, let me know!

Mellow Yellow

I have been very busy this week, with work, my internship and lots of events. I am really enjoying my internship and can't wait to see where it might lead. I realized I never shared the outfit I was wearing when I got my internship with you guys. So here it is:

Jacket: Artizia
Silk T-shirt: Thrifted, Community Thrift Store
Pants: H&M
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Vintage
Earrings: Gift from Grandmother
Watch: Gift from Mike

I found it a bit difficult to get dressed for my internship interview because I didn't know what they were expecting. I have a bunch of interview through out my life but most have been in the very creative field of make-up for film and the interview process is nothing like interviews in the rest of life,. You can be creative with your outfit and it is totally acceptable, especially in the film industry. I had also been to a different interview for a sales rep position at another wholesale fashion company and had been told my style didn't fit in with their brand.

So this time I decided to go with my own style, just no jeans! I interview people at my job everyday and it blows my mind how many people apply in jeans. It is never ok to try and get a job in jeans. Ok, rant over, so here is what I wore and it worked! Internship obtained!

What do you wear for interviews?

Throwing it together...

Some days you just throw things together and it happens to be good. This was one of those days. Thrown on and good.
