Punk Pearl Necklace

My style is not straight up classic. If I'm going to wear a pearl necklace I need it to be a little off, have a little edge to it, a little bit rockstar. So when I saw this necklace on Pinterest I wanted to make it instantly.

Bonus it cost me roughly $3.00 to pull it off. I simply took an old pearl necklace I already had but never wore and added gold safety pins from Dressew. Each box of safety pins was $1.25. I can wait to wear this necklace for my friend Bobbie's birthday dinner tomorrow night. What do you guys think?

A Revamp of a Classic

Before we went to Hawaii this spring I decided that my favourite summer staple needed a bit of a revamp, an upgrade if you will. I live in my jean cut off shorts in summer, I love them! I am not really a fan of short, I prefer dresses, but every girl does need a pair of shorts. I, truthfully, only have two pairs of shorts. Jean cut offs and a pair of olive green cargo shorts. I wear the jean shorts to death and the other pair maybe 3 times a summer. You can see where my true love lies, anyways, I thought they needed a bit of a change this summer.

Last summer I bought a pair of over sized jeans at The Wildlife Thrift store on Granville St and turned them into a pair of shorts. I don't think that jean short should be too tight and now that I mostly wear skinny jeans I needed someone else jeans to turn into short. I think they cost me about $5 bucks. Not bad, huh?

So to upgrade them I simply added studs. I adore studs and feel that they had just a little bit of tough to anything they are on. Here is the finished product. Cool, right?

I think I wore them 5 out of the 7 days we were in Hawaii and if you're wondering they go with everything. The great thing about studs is that they work with anything you want them to go with, no need to worry about mixing metal or any of that. Just throw them on and go. This whole upgrade took me about 15 mins and now its like I have a whole new pair of shorts. So great!

You can get the studs at any craft or fabric shop and the instructions are on the box. I wish I have take some diy shots along the way but I totally forgot. If you have any question, let me know!

DIY

I was looking through  my camera this morning when I saw a set of photos I had taken but not posted yet. I'm not sure when I wore this or to where but I love these pants! I bought these jeans over 5 years ago at Saan on a trip where I had ripped my jeans and needed something to wear. They turned out to be quite amazing and they only cost me $20. This spring I saw a picture of a pair of jeans with a studded pocket, I wanted them so bad. Instead I grabbed my old faithfuls and did a little DIY. A few rips here and there and a studded pockets updated my $20 jeans to something that people notice. You should try it!

Top: H&M $20
Jeans: Saan $20
Studded Pocket: All me! All in all it cost about $5
Sandals: Aldo $30

Making Christmas

This year I am making almost all the gifts that I am giving. I had a bit of a financial struggle in the second half of 2009 and I just can't afford to do a big blow out of gifts. Also I find that people really love getting things that you have made just for them!

My friend Jen, is what I would call the Blair to my Serena. She loves the hairband and rocks them better than most people I know. I, on the other hand, can barely wear a hairband long enough to wash my face! So for Christmas, I made her this:

I got a plain white hairband from the Dollar Store and then covered it in tons of white feathers I got a Dressew. I just glue gunned them on. Then I added the black feather, and on top a button I found on the floor of a change room one time. It was so much fun and I love it!

I gave it to her a few days ago and I am pretty sure she love it too!! Christmas Success!

DIY Earrings

Sunday night I thought I would whip a new pair of earrings for going back to school. I stopped at the bead store and got these beautiful back beads. They were $2 each, and I love them. The whole process took about 30 mins and cost about $5. I can't wait to try making some more. Lately I have been feeling super crafty and have so many DIY projects in my head. So many ideas so little time! Stayed tune fore the next project!

Mintage Make-Over

After a LOOONNNG day at work I remembered I forgot to get someone to take my photo. Sorry these are not the greatest but I had to show you this dress. I got it at Mintage for $18 on the sale rack, and fell in love with the pattern but I wasn't sure what I would do with it. It was about 8 inches longer and that made it kinda old looking. See what a little hemming or alterations can do. Last night I measured, cut and hemmed it into a really cute mini dress. I love the pattern and I am so glad I gave it a new life.

Jacket: Jacob $80
Dress: Mintage $18 and some time
Tight: ?
Shoes: Aldo $60
Belt: H&M $15
Cuff: Value Village $2
Watch: Yard sale $1

Corduroy Lounge

Recently all of my days seemed to be the never-ending kind so when I leave me house in the morning I am dress to go to whatever event I am headed to after work. On Wednesday it was my friend Rebecca's birthday which was at Corduroy Lounge on Cornwall St. Great place, cheap drinks and good foods and usually live music! In fact my friend, Keith's band "Warless" was supposed to play but the night before a neighbour complain and now they are getting a new licence to let them play live music late. So the music will be back next week.

Also I finally got around to sewing something I can actually wear with my sewing machine. I am in love. I am planning so many things to make in my head that it hurts a little. I made this skirt after seeing a skirt I really wanted at Zara. It was $70 dollars and I just couldn't do did. I got all the supplies at Dressew and in total this skirt cost me $8 and 2 hours of my time. What to make next? Also does anyone know of any sewing classes in Vancouver? I think I need a bit of a refresher course since I haven't really don't any pattern sewing since high school.

Jean Jacket: Bootlegger $40
T-shirt: Dynamite, two for $18
Skirt: Made it myself!! $8
Shoes: Aldo $60
Necklace: Aldo $10
Belt: Thrifted from a friend's sister
Purse: Thrifted $2

I also want to point out that the only new item in this outfit is the skirt. I have had everything else for years. It just goes to show that your can rearrange your wardrobe in a million different ways and sometimes just one piece is enough of a refresher. "Shopping your closet" is something I have been doing my whole life, not just since it became a recession trend.
