Thanksgiving!

Its been a week since I got back from Thanksgiving on the Island. It been a busy week, looking for an apartment but I found the cutest little place I can't wait to move into! Now that that is taken care of its time to take care of my blog.

My man and I had dinner at my grandparents place along with my mom, my stepdad and my grannie's friend. It was so good, I love a great home cooked meal, especially something hard to cook like turkey. We played some games and feasted, it was a great night had by all.

I personally scored big time. My Grannie gave me a fake fur jacket that my Grandpa got for her in the '60s. It still in perfect condition. I love it and can't wait for a cold day to wear it!

Also I got a dress she wore in her 20's for galas and such. Its been taken apart at the seams and is a little small for me. I am going to get a tailor to short it to just below the knee and use the extra material to add some inches to the bodice. I'm thinking I will plan an event for the dress!

Here is what my man and I wore for dinner.
T-shirt: Garage Clothing (two for $18)
Skirt: Joe Fresh $15
Tights: American Apparel $16
Ballet Flats: Aldo $60
Necklace: Aldo $10

On him: Shirt: H&M $40
Jeans: Quick Nickel $60
Socks: Joe Fresh pack of 6 $10
Watch: Birthday gift from my folks, CANUCKS

Oh yeah and I cut in new bangs. What do you think?

Vancouver, Vancouver!

Saturday night we set out in the wind and rain to see the closing night performance of Ballet BC's Season '08-'09 opener Nine Sinatra Songs. It was worth it. I am a big fan of ol' blues eyes as is my man, which was how I got him to go with me. The other bonus was that the dresses were by Oscar de la Renta. Three things I love all in one show, does it get any better? Well actually yes, the opening show for Ballet BC's new season was a three part treat.

The Program for the night started off with Schubert. Schubert is a three part ballet about the life of a ballerina. There was a loose story to the piece and I quite enjoyed the lead ballerina, Makaila Wallace. She was light on her feet and really conveyed the emotions on her face. It was a nice way to start the evening.

After a short intermission there was Petrouchka. This one was quite different. I definitely had to read the program to get a sense of what was being conveyed in the dance but none the less the dancing was impeccable and I still quite enjoyed it. Not a beginner ballet to be taking a man to as it was slightly avant-garde for myself and I love the ballet.

After another short intermission it was time for some Frank Sinatra. This was AMAZING. I loved it. I'd have to call it ballroom inspired ballet. The songs were original Sinatra recordings, filling the Centre with his lush voice. I had goosebumps. The pairs were graceful and loving. One set of dancers even had humor playing like they didn't know how to dance together. If it was still on I would suggest you get yourself down there asap but it is not. I do suggest though that once this year you take yourself to the ballet.

BC Ballet's next show is The Faerie Queen. I saw this show a few years ago and loved it. It is new take on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. It is a fun and colorful ballet good for all ages. If you go, please let me know what you think.

Here is what I wore to the show. This is one of my most treasured items. I found it at a thrift store on Cordova St. It was thirty dollars and as soon as I knew it fit, I knew it was coming home with me!
Dress: Deluxe Junk $30
Shoes: Aldo Outlet $20
Purse: Salvation Army Thrift Store $2
Ring: Sears $5
Earrings: Le Chateau $10

"Its Friday Night and I Feel Alright..."

Friday night a few of us hit the town for my friend Jenn's birthday. First it was off to Granville Room for a quick bite and some amazing cocktails. You have to try the Mr. Pink, it has muddled watermelon in it and the duck was divine.

If you have not checked this place out I seriously suggest you do. It has a great atmosphere, good music and great decor. Having said that there was a picture of a chick flashing her breasts so if that bothers you maybe wait a month and then check it out, the photo should be gone by then.

My friend Ali and I at Granville Room.

After the Granville Room, it was off to one of my favorite places to dance, Library Square. Which after doing some research, is also owned by the Donnelly Group as is Granville Room and a few of my other favorite hang outs.

I love the Library Square not only for their atmosphere, but also because the people who work there are fantastic. They give great service, and for someone who works in the service industry its always nice to see that other people give so much of themselves. I was very impressed by one of the managers, Tommy, who remembered me from a ways back when my man and I were there during the day watching the Lakers play.

Mostly I love their music, Friday was '90s night and having been a teenager in the '90s it was awesome! In fact the played songs I haven't heard in forever but somehow still know all the words for. This may have to do with the fact that I LIVED for the school dances. I never missed one and I dance all night. I, apparently, was not too cool for school. If this sounds like you, you have to check it out. Also high on my list is the fact that Saturday is '80s night. Seriously go there and dance your cute butt off! Maybe say Hi if you see me shaking it. Also for those of you who do not, strangely, like to dance there is good food, pool tables and a sweet shuffle board to entertain yourselves with.

This is just of sample of the crazy fun time you will have. Jenn in her birthday outfit and Ali and I rocking out.

Here's what I wore. Sorry about the slightly weird photos, this is what happens when you have to take of yourself when no one else is around. I'm working on it.

T-shirt: Dynamite 2 for $18(got one in white too)
Skirt: Joe Fresh $14
Booties: Aldo $60
Earring: Xmas Gift from my friend, Malinda
Necklace: Aldo Accessories $25
Blazer: Le Chateau (Xmas Gift from my grandparents)

PS: First person to name the song I stole the title of this blog post from wins a prize.........

Good Luck,

What I Wore

I am condensing a few days into one post as I had a few great outfits that I rock last week and before this week gets going I thought I should do some catch up.

I wore this outfit to work and then at work for some shift leading. I love the skirt, I am a huge fan of polka dots so when I saw it I knew I had to have it. Only thing is that it could be too prissy so I tried to toughen it up a little with the belt and gold necklace.

Sorry of the goofy faces, I was in a giggle fit when these were getting taken.

Boatneck Sweater: Urban Planet $19(This sweater is so old but so perfect)
Skirt: Joe Fresh $30
Shoes: Joe Fresh $30
Earrings: Gift from my friend Dylan
Necklace: Aldo Accessories $25
Belt: H&M $15
Ring: Aldo Accessories $25

I am always on the look out for a good sweater dress and I found one at Joe Fresh while in Vernon last weekend. Mix it with a few good accessories and you have a great day to night outfit.

Dress: Joe Fresh $25
Tights: American Apparel $16
Boots: Hong Kong Street Market $20
Sunglasses: Dressew $5
Necklace: Aldo Accessories $25
Ring: Aldo Accessories $25
Earring: Spring $10

So a note about the American Apparel Tights, they are the best $16 dollars you will ever spent on tights. When I first saw the price I was so sure I could find tights just a s black and opaque somewhere else for cheaper but trust me when I say these are worth the 16 bucks. I have had the same pair for two years, not a single run or tear yet! Can you say the same for your black tights? Plus they come in a ton of colors if black is not for you.

Off to work on Friday and it was a bit wet and chilly, but I was all good in this bow sweater.

Jacket: Le Chateau $30
Sweater: Joe Fresh $25
Pants: Winners $25
Shoes: Joe Fresh $30 (See above)
Earrings: Xmas gift from my friend Malinda
Ring: Aldo Accessories $25
Yes these pictures were taken at my work. Not the best background but sometimes you have to improvise.

Well now I am off to get ready for work. Have a great day,
Girl

Dior on a budget

While up in Vernon last weekend I made a stop at Superstore to check out the Joe Fresh section and I scored big time. I got a nice little bundle of new fall finds and I felt like the lady in the Ikea commercial yelling "Start the car!" I'll definitely be showing you all the fabulous things I got but until then there is what I wore on Monday.

I saw this pink jacket and I had to have it, which is a little strange as I have never been a fan of pink. Its seem lately though I have been attracted to all things pink, pink must be having its a moment in my life.

Jacket: Joe Fresh $50
Jeans: Rewind Denim $40
Shoes: Aldo $90
Purse: Aldo $50

Now a note about these shoes. I loved the Dior Extreme shoes that SJP wore a few times as Carrie in the SATC movie but of course at $800 dollars (US) they were totally out of my budget so I began the hunt of the best replica I could find. Well Aldo it was!  I walked in looking to spent a $50 dollar gift certificate my work had given me and there they were sitting on the shelf. I tried them on knowing I would be leaving with them! They fit and I loved them. The first thing the sale girl say is "but what will you wear them with?" My answer "Everything!"

The Aldo ones I bought are on the left and The Dior ones on the right, slight differences but for someone who is saving for school and such but loves fashion a much wiser buy!

See you can wear them with ever thing!!

Cheers,
Girl
