Summer Sandals

It was sunny and hot today, time for another dress. This dress can look quite sexy so I tried to tone it down a bit with the vest. With the tougher platforms I really liked the whole look.

Vest: Sirens $10
Dress: Monteau $30 bought at True Value Vintage
Shoes: Spring $49.00
Ring: True Value Vintage $5
Cuff: Thrifted Value Village $2
Earrings: Gifted by my grandmother

My search for the perfect summer sandal may not be over but I have found a perfect pair of platforms. Part gladitor sandal, part wooden platform but what I love about them the most is that they are not black. They are a nice shade of navy blue, and dark purple, with great hardware. Just tough enough for all the floaty spring dresses I have been longing to wear. On top of all that they are from Spring, only $49.99. I feel like Spring has up their game and enter the grown up shoe world.

Store of the Week: Superstore

I know you have read the name of the store for this week and are thinking "is this for real? Superstore?" Well yes its for real. If you've never heard of JOE clothing you need to head over to your local Superstore and see if they have one of the big JOE sections. When I was in Vernon with my man I hit up the Superstore and it had a huge JOE section, where I was shocked by how much cute stuff there was for such great prices! I had a shopping cart full of things to try on. I could have easily walked out of there with a couple hundred dollars worth of cute dresses, hat, shoes, belts, tops, and so much more. Lucky I had already set myself a limit of $50 dollars. Still I got a cute dress, a mini skirt, a skinny belt and sunhat for $50 dollars.

This dress was only $29.99, it fits great, has pockets(which I am a sucker for) and fabric covered buttons. There was quite a few cute dress, some more summer beach party but also a lot of office appropriate dress that were not boring.

This mini skirt was too cute to pass up. It too has pockets and great details that make it seem like it should have cost more than $24.00 dollars. There is even a lining in it. I can't wait to wear it with a white tank top and gladiator sandals.

This skinny belt was $6.00 same with this great sun goddess hat. This hat with be going to the beach with my ever day this summer. You have to protect that delicate face skin from those UV rays might as well look good doing it.

There was so much more to choose from and I will definitely be heading back for some more delightful day dresses. But the joys of Superstore don't stop there. If you need some other summer basics before you hit the beach there is sunscreen, beach towels, lawn chairs and why not get yourself a Bocce set to challenge those boys to a game with? Superstore has it all. You can even get the making for a picnic and be off to the beach or your favorite destination all in one stop. So I say give it a chance, you might not agree with me but I am not the only fashionista I know who rides the skytrain out to one of the Superstore just outside downtown to check out the cute frugal finds at Superstore.

Champagne Birthday BBQ

Saturday I headed over to Kits for my friend, Ali's, Champagne birthday party. It was a wonderfully hot and sunny day, perfect for a backyard bbq! We played some bocce ball, ate fabulous food, drank oodles of champagne and at one point I even chased down an ice cream trunk. All in all a perfect Saturday event!

Also the perfect time to debut my new vintage dress that I got at the Erin Templeton Sample Sale I let you all know about it. It was a great sale and I picked up two unique vintage dresses. This one is so flowy and summery, plus I am a sucker for anything with polka dots, ruffles, or bow! This has two out of three.

Dress: Erin Templeton Sale: Vintage: $45
Purse: Thrifted on Main St $10
Sandals: Aldo $30
Sunglasses: Aldo $10

It was almost hot enough on Saturday to use the outdoor pool of our apartment but I am not even sure if it is open yet. Can't wait to have a fabulous pool party. I have so many ideas, luau anyone?

The other one is this leopard print dress from the '80's. I love leopard print so I had to have it but I am not sure how I am going to wear it yet. I just know if I walked away from it I would be kicking myself later. The tag says it Isadora New York. It sure if that is anyone important or if in the '80's it was a known name. I think I will have to figure it out and see if I can find anything on that company. If anyone knows anything about name, let me know. Cheers!

Skunk!!

This is what I saw walking home from work in the rain today. Yes its a skunk! This picture basically sums up the weather and therefore my mood at the moment!

Sorry I haven't written a while but since I wrote about the sun, there hasn't been any! It doesn't make a girl really want to dress well or honestly do anything! I am feeling a little upset about the weather, no not a little, A LOT. It is depressing, this morning I could see my breath as I was walking to work. I do not like it, not one bit! I want to start wearing little tiny dresses with only flip flops, bikinis at the beach, a cute top with jeans and big wedge sandals with NO SWEATER! I am sick of being cold, getting wet and having to wear layers. I mean it is MAY, spring should have sprung. So please mother nature, please let there be sunshine and warmth!
Vest: Sirens $10
T shirt: American Apparel $15
Jeans: Rewind Denim $45
Shoes: Aldo $80
Necklace: Thrifted $9
Cuff: Thrifted $2
Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Beach Monday

After I got off work yesterday the sun was shining so bright and finally it was actually warm. I grabbed my man, a bottle of wine, a blanket and we headed down to English Bay for a picnic dinner on the sand. We are so lucky that are apartment is about 2 blocks from the beach. It was a great way to kick off what I am hoping will be a long and hot summer!

Just as I have a thing for vintage fashion, I have thing for vintage cars too. I think this car is simply beautiful then on top of that notice the lady's shawl to keep her warm matches the car! That is something I would totally do.

Here is what I wore to celebrate summer slowly showing itself here in Vancouver.

Jacket: Le Chateau $30
Dress: Vintage Thrifted from my mom
Shoes: Aldo $30
Sunglasses: Aldo $10
Necklace: Thrifted Value Village $2
Earring: Gift
Belt: Thrifted Moving Sale (free)
Bag: Shoppers Drugmart $7
Cuff: Thrifted Value Village $2
And of course now today it grey and cold again! ARGH!!

Off to the Island

This weekend my man and I headed over to Vancouver Island to visit my parents. It was the annual Fire and Ice Festival in my hometown of Qualicum Beach. The festival started in 1992, just after my 11th birthday. I have been to the festival a large amount of times, I have been in the festival with my mom's work a bunch times but I hadn't been in a few years. My man had never been and I figure it was something he needed to experience. Let me explain, Fire and Ice is Chili and Ice Scuptler contest. You get a little cup, go around and try all the chilies and then you vote for the one you think is the best. This year the cups were $3, which is a price hike since it start in 1992 at $1 but inflation and all that jazz. It was a lot of fun, seeing my town so full of people and life, bumping into friends from high school I hadn't seen in forever and sharing it with my man.

After the festival we met up with my parents(who skipped the festival) at Coombs Country Market, or as most people know it "Goats on the Roof". Its a market with a sod roof and goats live up there. Everybody loves it. In fact I worked there one summer as a buser when I was 16 or 17, then later on my brother worked there for a full 2 years...I thought he was crazy.

After the market we chilled at my parents place before heading out to the Shady Rest for dinner with my parents and my step uncle and his wife. I used to go to the Shady almost every Friday with a group of friends for 0.10 cent wings and drinks before a night of dancing in Nanaimo. There are no dance clubs in Qualicum at all! Shady is right on the water and is a great place to get a bit to eat.

The only picture I took of my mom this weekend, she does not do the dishes all the time, I swear.

Sunday and my parents tried to get out on the ocean in my parents boat they just got but the tide was too low and then when we were driving home on of the axles broke. Luckily the boat was fine but we got stuck on the side of the road for a couple hours. We did however make it home in time to have my favorite meal, with my grandparents before heading back to Vancouver on the 9:00pm ferry. It was a great weekend and a long time overdue.

Last Weekend's Rainy Sunday Part 2

Also at the Vancouver Museum is a History of Vancouver exhibit. This exhibit is there all the time so you can check it out whenever you have time. I was not expecting to see a lot of fashion at the museum but there was quite a lot, some from every era.

I am a huge fan of the fashions of the '50s so I mostly took pictures of that time period but there was some fashion from every decade start in the early days of Vancouver.

I would wear these shoes still now, they were beautiful, as were the hats. The amount of time and detail that went into the hats was amazing.

This bathing suit you had to rent at Kitsilano back in the day. If someone wore that at Kits beach these days you would notice them a mile away in the sea of bikinis and bare chested men. I am glad that these suit are not around anymore. It was a great rainy day at the museum, and as we were leaving the sun came out. So we walked up to Cornwall St to Nando's Chicken for some wings and a pint of beer. All in all a great Sunday!

Last Weekend's Rainy Sunday

I know I have been a little bit behind lately so before I give you this weekends update. I'll give you last weekends. Last Sunday my man and I headed out to the Vancouver Museum, I had never been there before and they have the Movers and Shapers exhibit at the moment, I really wanted to see it. Here are some pictures from the Movers and Shapers exhibit.

There were even some fashion movers and shapers in the exhibit.

I suggest that you head over there and check it out before the exhibit is over. It was a great rainy day activity!
